Discover the best of North Cornwall

From Bude, Cornwall’s wild and beautiful heritage north coast stretches out over 60 miles before you. Towns and villages huddle into the cliffs, protected from the Atlantic below. Once home to smugglers, this is now a surfers and thrill seekers paradise. But the mile-wide bays and sandy beaches are equally popular with summer sunbathers and winter dog walkers, families and food lovers, heading for the finest, freshest seafood in the restaurants of historic fishing ports like Padstow. There’s more to North Cornwall than its coastal hot spots. Inland from Burns Park you’ll find market towns, castles and country houses set against the rugged Bodmin Moor and off the beaten track. Not to mention golf, walking, cycling… or just enjoy the serenity of the Tate St Ives gallery.

Summerleaze beach

This beach is located just a short walk from Bude town centre with a large carpark that leads directly down to the sand dunes. The beach is sheltered by a large breakwater which reduces the intensity of the waves making the beach popular with families, plus there is a sea-water bathing pool available.

Walk Cornwall

Put on your hiking boots and enjoy the history, heritage, and beauty of over 219 different coastal and beach walks. Ideas for routes on the website.

The Milky Way Park

Something for all ages including rides, rollercoasters, a bird of prey display, ‘Nerd Alert’ fun science show and the new ‘Thrills & Spills’ show from BGT semi-finalist Merlin.

Crooklets Beach

At low tide, there is a wide expanse of sandy beach plus the beach area is bordered by rocky outcrops ideal for rock-pooling with your little ones. Crooklets beach is exposed to larger Atlantic swells that are popular with surfers and home to the Bude Surf Life Saving Club.

Newquay Zoo

Journey around this superb zoo set in tropical botanical gardens. Enjoy adventure play areas and hands-on experiences including feeding time.

Famous for the very steep cobbled street that leads down to the harbour, this village can’t be accessed by car, so everything going in and out has to go on sledge or by donkey!

Cornwall's Lakes

Cornwall’s lakes are an important habitat for local wildlife and plants. These lakes are also used for a wide range of outdoor water activities at five centres.

Tintagel Castle

Explore King Arthur’s birthplace, enjoy fascinating exhibitions then climb the 148 steps and cross the bridge to the island - the views are stunning!

Broomhill Sculpture Garden

Magical gardens where art and culture meet, view awe-inspiring sculptures by the likes of Giles Penny and Greta Berlin and set in acres of beautiful woodland.

Port Issac

If you love walking, head for Port Isaac’s coastal walks including a stunning two-hour clifftop walk to Port Gaverne. Or cycle the famous Camel Trail linking Padstow and Daymer Bay. Or just enjoy local galleries and art and craft shops.

Hartland Abbey and Gardens

Built in the 12th century, this is one of the most important ancestral homes in North Devon, showcasing beautiful gardens and architecture and treasures from the Mediaeval, Queen Anne, Georgian, Regency and Victorian periods. Plus events programme too.

Eden Project

Explore the largest indoor rainforest in the world and enjoy special events such as ‘Eden Escape: Alien Rescue’ (solve clues to rescue an alien within a specific time limit) botanical art classes, Eden Marathon and even the ‘World Pasty Championships’.

Black Rock Beach

This is situated on the south side of Widemouth bay and at high tide becomes cut off. The name is derived from the prominent outcrop of black rock. There are big tides here with reef and beach breaks that draw in the surfers.

A designated Area of Outstanding beauty, owned and cared for by the National Trust. Once a busy trading port, you can now explore the village, hidden churches, historic buildings, river valleys and moors plus local festivals and events.

Widmouth Beach

Widemouth beach as its name suggests is a long and open bay, which is completely exposed and therefore can get a little breezy. The sun is on the beach all day so perfect for catching some rays, plus it offers some beautiful sunsets.
