Gin Making in Bude
Think of Cornwall’s reputation for locally produced food and drink and there’s a good chance it’s pasties, ice cream, cream teas and even our award-winning Cornish beers that first spring to mind. But in the future, it could be gin!
First things first. Don’t think all gin is the same, just waiting for a dash of your favourite mixer. There are literally hundreds of different botanical combinations and at An Mor you can learn all about these, the history of gin and, within 2 hours, even create your own perfectly drinkable bottle to take home with you!
The first confirmed date for the production of gin is the early 17th century in Holland, although claims have been made that it was produced prior to this in Italy. In Holland it was produced as a medicine and sold in chemist shops to treat stomach complaints, gout and gallstones. To make it more palatable, the Dutch started to flavour it with juniper, which had medicinal properties of its own. At An Mor you can learn more about gin’s history, including how it became known as ‘Dutch Courage’ with British soldiers.
Choose from either a 4 hour ‘Gin Master Class’ or a 2 hour ‘Gin party’ – which is a great thing to do with friends. Whichever you choose, your experience includes:
