Forget Glastonbury, visit Girvan!
If you love music then head 7 miles up the road from Brunston Castle to the seaside town of Girvan. For eleven Sundays this summer, the town’s shoreline comes alive to the sound of ‘Music on the Prom’ with live bands, dancing and entertainment for all the family – and it’s all free-of-charge!
The summer-long festival is organised by Girvan Youth Trust, who work tirelessly to promote and create opportunities for young people in the town. The line up for this year’s Music on the Prom has already been announced with some top acts set to appear including Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons tribute ‘The Jersey Notes’, old school rocker ‘Just Like Eddie’ and ‘Bookends’, a tribute to the legendary Simon and Garfunkel who are performing shortly before heading for a three-week stint at the Edinburgh Festival.
Music on the Prom organiser Paul McCafferty said: “To say I’m looking forward to this year’s Music on The Prom is an understatement. This is the best line up we have ever brought to Girvan – as well as some of our old favourites we have booked some really amazing acts this year. You could ask a few people who attend Music on the Prom what makes it so unique and get a different answer every time. For me it’s the only place where you can see people dancing on the prom and somebody walking their dog past them – in fact, our record for the number doing the Slosh on the prom is 110 people and a big black labrador dog. I think that’s unique.”
As well as Music on the Prom on Sunday afternoons, you can also enjoy children’s entertainers on Tuesday afternoons, Children’s games and activities on Thursday afternoons or take a boat out on the Boating Pond! We hope you’ll come and join in all the fun of the Girvan seaside!
